Frostshot vs Shottr

Shottr is a tiny, fast screenshot app that people who care about pixels love, with a screen ruler, a color picker and scrolling screenshots. Frostshot is built around a different moment: you capture something, mark it up, press Return, and it’s on your clipboard, with private details blurred if you want. Here’s how they compare.

The short answer

  • Pick Shottr if you measure pixels, pick colors, need scrolling screenshots, or want to start free.
  • Pick Frostshot if you want capture, mark up and copy in one move, auto-blur for private details, a Keep for Later shelf in the notch, and an app built for macOS 26.

What Frostshot does differently

Mark up right where you captured

Press ⌥⇧1 and drag. A glass island rises under your selection with the arrow, box, highlighter, text and blur tools. Press Return and it’s copied. No editor window in the way.

Private details can blur themselves

With auto-blur on, Frostshot finds emails, API keys, phone and card numbers and IP addresses and blurs them in every capture. It’s off by default, and it runs on your Mac.

Keep for Later, in the notch

Press ⌥Return and the capture slips into the notch. Kept for Later never expires; ⌥⇧S opens it any time.

Built for macOS 26

Frostshot is made for macOS 26, down to its Liquid Glass editor.

What Frostshot doesn’t do

Frostshot has no scrolling capture, no screen recording, and no pixel ruler and no color picker for copying color values. If those matter to you, Shottr is a great choice. Join seamlessly is not scrolling capture: you take two captures of the same page, and Frostshot offers to join them when they overlap exactly.

FAQ

Is Frostshot a Shottr alternative?

If you mostly capture, mark up and paste, yes. If you measure pixels or need scrolling screenshots, Shottr does things Frostshot doesn’t.

Does Frostshot have scrolling screenshots?

No. Join seamlessly joins two overlapping captures of one page that you take yourself. Frostshot doesn’t scroll for you.

Can Frostshot copy text from the screen?

Yes. Copy Text (⌥⇧⌘T) turns any text on screen into text on your clipboard, and code keeps its indentation.

Is Frostshot free?

No. It’s a single purchase on the Mac App Store, with no subscription.
