Blur private details in your Mac screenshots, automatically
You take a quick screenshot for a bug report or a chat, and there it is: your email, an API key, a card number. Frostshot can find those details and blur them for you, before the shot ever reaches your clipboard.
How auto-blur works
- Open Frostshot Settings › General and turn on Redact sensitive data automatically. It’s off by default.
- Capture as usual with ⌥⇧1.
- Emails, phone numbers, card numbers, API keys and IP addresses come out already blurred. Press Return to copy.
You stay in control
- Off by default: nothing is blurred unless you turn it on.
- Per capture: the eye button turns auto-blur on or off for one capture.
- Review each match: in the editor, check every match and pick blur or solid boxes.
- Blur anything else by hand: the blur tool is right on the island under your selection.
Found on your Mac, never uploaded
Detection uses the system’s own text recognition on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded, and there’s no account.
Then copy, or keep it for later
Press Return and the blurred shot is on your clipboard. Not ready to send? Press ⌥Return to keep it in the notch, in Kept for Later, which never expires.
FAQ
How do I blur part of a screenshot on Mac?
In Frostshot, pick the blur tool on the island that rises under your selection, drag over what you want hidden, and press Return to copy.
Can Frostshot blur sensitive data automatically?
Yes, if you turn it on. It finds emails, phone numbers, card numbers, API keys and IP addresses and blurs them in each capture.
Is auto-blur on by default?
No. It’s off until you turn it on in Settings › General, and you can switch it per capture with the eye button.
Are my screenshots sent anywhere to be scanned?
No. Everything happens on your Mac.
